DDoS-Capable Botnets

A Global Problem

Among the vast ocean that is internet bandwidth growth in 2023, the riptide of bad traffic continues to gain power as well. At the midpoint 2023, we have already observed 592,373 DDoS-capable botnet nodes, which will outpace 2022’s 1.3 million counts. These nodes continue to power direct-path attacks targeting enterprises around the globe. Groups like Killnet have yet to go away and continue to add tools to their kit. They leverage malware families like Mirai, bend open proxy servers to their will, and leverage so-called bulletproof hosting providers to hide their activities while attempting to overwhelm enterprise defenses.
